The Basics

  • Course structure: The course is divided into six Sessions, each of which includes three to four Lessons. Each Lesson includes a short video and a list of suggested reading and viewing. Lessons are accessible one week before that Session’s webinar, starting January 10th, 2019. Read the detailed course content overview here.
  • Weekly webinars: We will discuss the content of the course in seven weekly webinars. The webinars are held every Thursday at 11:00am Pacific / 2:00pm Eastern starting January 17th, 2019. The first six are with course host Richard Heinberg of Post Carbon Institute and Don Hall, Marissa Moemmarts, and Nils Paulsson of Transition US; the final webinar will be hosted exclusively by Transition US staff and will focus on applying the course content to the specific needs of grassroots initiatives. All webinars are recorded. You will receive an email each week with information about attending the webinar.
  • Certificate: If you would like to earn a Certificate of Course Completion, you must complete the quizzes at the end of each Session and attend at least five of the seven group webinars. (Alternative arrangements are available upon request for people unable to attend because of ongoing scheduling conflicts.)

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Will I be able to interact with other students in this course?
Yes! We encourage everyone to post in the student forums on the Think Resilience website. Each set of Lessons has its own forum, and this Winter 2019 session also has its own private forum where you can introduce yourself and where we’ll be posting webinar recordings.
  • Do I need a camera and microphone for the webinars?
No. Students participate in the webinar by writing questions and comments in a chat box.
  • Do I need high-speed internet to attend the webinars?
The webinars have streaming video, which work best with high-speed internet. If you don’t have high-speed internet, however, you can also call in by telephone (see instructions you’l receive ahead of each webinar).
  • What happens if I miss a webinar?
You’ll be able to access a recording the day after each webinar. If you want to earn the Certificate of Course Completion, however, you are required to attend at least five of the seven webinars “in person.” (If you are in a non-USA time zone or otherwise have special needs, contact me for an alternative arrangement.)
  • Will I be able to go back and re-watch the video lectures?
Yes! And even after the course is done, you will always be able to return to the course content as often as you want.
